cardiParty 2018-09 Zine-a-thon

Registration is closed for this event
For September, newCardigan is changing things up a little- we are taking the opportunity to get into some Zines!

What is a zine, you may ask? A zine (/ziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier (courtesy of Wikipedia).

Although you probably already know this, as zine’s are growing rapidly in popularity, with many libraries adding workshops into their programs, or librarians just making them for fun.

On Saturday the 15th of September, join us at The Park Hotel in Abbotsford for the chance to have a look at a selection of zines from Sticky Institute and a variety of library and personal collections, to showcase the diversity of zine culture and prove that you do not have to be an experienced crafter to make your own zine. In fact, newbies are 100% welcome and encouraged! We hope that all this chat will make you feel inspired, as there will be a voluntary zine making activity to go along with pub lunch and knowledge exchange.

Some material will be provided, but if this is something you have been keen on trying out, or already make zines, bringing materials such as pens, coloured pencils or old magazines/books along is very much encouraged. Get inspired! If you make zines, please do bring an example of your work for a little bit of ol’ school ‘show and tell’. We want to see what you do!
