Royal Historical Society of Victoria
The Royal Historical Society of Victoria (RHSV) was formed in 1909 and is a community organisation committed to collecting, researching and sharing an understanding of the history of Victoria. With the support of a large number of volunteers, the RHSV provides a full program of activities such as lectures, seminars, excursions and exhibitions for the benefit of members and the general public.
The RHSV is headquartered in an old Drill Hall built for the Army Medical Corps in 1938 when the world was gearing up for WWII. The Drill Hall is a barely-touched art deco heritage-listed building including the intact Officers’ Mess and other architectural touches. The RHSV holds a large and state-significant collection of Victorian history – the largest collection outside of government bodies.
