cardiCast episode 71 – Nick Henderson

It’s been awhile since we published our last episode back at the start of 2020. As we could no longer host cardiParties, we ran out of recordings for cardiCast. We concentrated our efforts on cardiShorts, but now it’s time to bring back cardiCast with a series of Zoom interviews with members of our incredible GLAM community.

Our first episode in this series is with Nick Henderson, Curator at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), and volunteer curator and archivist at the Australian Queer Archives. We discuss the role of curator at NFSA and how that has changed over the last few years. Digital engagement with collections via social media and online; and accessing collections during a pandemic. LGBTIQA+ representation in collections, exhibitions and the GLAM community.

We hope you enjoy this new series.

GLAM Blog Club – February 2020

January’s theme was ‘Humour’, thanks to Melinda for the suggestion, and special thanks to Anne who gave us another great video and our only blog on the theme for the month, adding to our collective happiness.

Ellen wrote a blog about a book that brings her joy which is very close to humour 🙂

Hugh blogged about 2019 and all the things it held.

Sally wrote a blog about her DNF list, here’s hoping 2020 will bring you better books.

Kathryn looked back over the past decade and asks the hard questions about the future.

And Mike wrote a touching piece about the January long weekend.

Our topic for February is ‘Queer’ as suggested by newCardigan’s own Extra-Ordinary member Clare O’Hanlon! Working with some queer archives? Done something to help make your spaces more inclusive? Or maybe you want to put on some queer glasses and take a look around your GLAM and see what’s missing? Whatever it is, we want to hear about it!

cardiCast Episode 59 – Archie Boulter – Queer Town

Melbourne newCardigan cardiParty

Recorded Live

Our June Melbourne cardiParty was hosted by Archie Boulter, a Melbourne-based entrepreneur and LGBTIQA+ advocate, who shared their experiences creating “queer spaces” within the GLAM sector. Archie  discussed their recent efforts co-leading the establishment of LGBTIQA+ Advisory Groups across Museums Victoria (Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum & Scienceworks), as well as co-founding the social enterprise called Queer Town, which was selected to take part in the Foundry658 Accelerator program, run by ACMI and the State Library.
