cardiParty 2024.04

Melbourne Art Library

Registration is closed for this event
Melbourne Art Library (MAL) is a not-for-profit lending library that collects specialised art and design texts. They are proudly independent and are curious about what being a ‘library’ means.

MAL’s collection has been almost entirely built through donations. It comprises art, design and critical theory texts not held in other public lending libraries, with a focus on the art of Naarm/Melbourne, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The Art Ephemera Archive collects room sheets, essays, posters and other ephemera from artist-run spaces and exhibitions in Naarm. At this cardiParty, a MAL representative will speak about the ethos of the collection and how it’s been established, as well as speaking about the ways in which the collection and space is activated, through artist residencies, reading groups, and other programs.
